Huston based Cyberonics has reported about positive trial results regarding the development of an anti depression device. It is called as the VNS Therapy System. The device works by stimulating the vagus nerve. It delivers intermittent electrical pulses in the neck 24 hours a day.



During the treatment with this device for two years, the rate of depression went down in the patients. The rate of committing suicide and even hospitalization rate because of depression has come down. The implantable pacemaker-like generator will gain federal approval in July. It will be given to those people suffering from drug-resistant depression, first.
