A new study conducted by the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, discovered that drug use and sex behavior among the teenagers can lead to problems related to depression. According to a survey conducted by the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance, in 2003, almost half the high school students throughout the nation had had sexual intercourse, while around 45 percent had consumed alcoholic beverages, and another 22 percent had already used marijuana during the last one month. Further, 29 percent had experienced depressive symptoms, including feelings of sadness and hopelessness that lasted for two weeks or more and led them to stop participating in normal activities.
