Low-income people with depression are less likely to respond to treatment and more likely to be suicidal than those who have higher incomes, a study, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry claims.
It has been a long time socioeconomic factors, including income, education and occupation are blamed to be a factor effecting health status, lading to illness and death. People with lower socioeconomic status are more likely to develop a depressive illness according to research. And their depression is more severe than that of people higher on the socioeconomic status scale.
Socioeconomic factors, including income and education, would also affect how people respond to medications and other therapies for depression; — this is hypothesized by several studies. But unfortunately, the studies have ultimately proved inconclusive.
